The Struggle for Recognition
Is this just part of who we are that we struggle for recognition? Well, yeah, it's just a part of human nature. And I think the problem in our democracy is that we pledge to respect isothumia. We grant rights to all of our citizens and we promise to treat them equally. But there are a lot of people for whom that is inadequate. It may be an individual characteristic, but oftentimes it's a group characteristic like you're race or gender.
