Should States Tax Digital Goods and Services?
The US approach to imposing a sales tax on digital products without a broad exemption for business inputs is unique among the major consumption taxes in the world. Virtually all other advanced nations use a value added tax that avoids tax permeating through credit provision. The Multistate Tax Commission are launching into a project and in their case to do a broad white paper on how states are taxing digital commerce now.
