The Watts Rebellion in South L.A.
Pam Bailey was a member of youth choir in South L.A. during the Watts Rebellion, which lasted six days. Pam wanted to become a doctor but couldn't afford college so she supported herself by working at record store and radio station. In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot dead while supporting sanitation workers' strike; uprisings broke out across U.S. After his death, Pam competed in a beauty pageant for an extra $100 that helped her pay for school.
