From 1471 to 1483, Edward IV ruled England with skill and to the general satisfaction of its political community. The only incident to mar this period of calm was one final screw up from Edward's useless brother George, Duke of Clarence. In late March of that year, King Edward, just shy of his 41st birthday, was taken ill. He wasn't old, but years of debauched living had taken their toll.
