Is There a Connection Between Elijah and Moses?

Moses died in a vof or the trans-Jordan, is there a correlation with Elijah being taken up in the same-ish area? If so, it certainly could be the case. There are more similarities between these two characters than just that. It's hard to know if this is the reason they are mentioned together in the transfiguration though.
