The Buddha in some ways was responding to this potential transition in the modern mind and the suffering that was being experienced was almost a new experience because of this shift in potential whatever mind brain kind of organization. It seems like to the people who are asking them these questions a kind of either stubbornness or maybe stupidity although I've always wondered whether they were actually secretly laughing at these idiots who are asks them the questions but it's a different mindset right to just say I refuse to go down that abstraction.
