Tones are just a whole nother dimension that you're not naturally used to am listening for. They definitely need to be studied directly, rather than just picking them up through naturalistic processes lucomotion. The main help it's to be able to spot tones is when learning new voca - if i'm speaking to an exchange partner and I don't have to ask the question repeatedly, then i want to hear the tones when they say it so i can learn from them. So we've discussed sor of getting used to tones, in islation, drilling tone pars, two very crucial stages in the process. Now let's talk more about being able to hear tones correctly
