Having a True Wind Angle Is Really, Really Helpful
Having a true wind angle is really, really helpful because it tends to stay more constant when you're steering downwind. With a boat like an Uchimer or even more so than Ice Bear Falcon are going to surf better in big waves. As the boat starts accelerating, it dramatically changes the angle of the apparent wind and there will be less variation in the course. When we sailed across the Atlantic, Mir and I kept our little analog wind instrument on true for the same reason when you're learning how to steer. The apparent wind angle is allowing you to soak really down. If you're more of a novice helmsman, you end up getting caught out and then risk a crash drive
