The Inefficiencies of the US Defense Industry
The issue that has beveled defense procurement in Australia is, let's call them inefficiencies. It cannot possibly be the case that a piece of military hardware used anywhere else in the world is suitable for Australian conditions. Even if we have no intention of ever using it in Australia, it could only ever deploy it to one of those, to a foreign battlefield. What were the origins of our infatuation with bespoke assets? Isn't that a great question? And I don't know the answer to that question even though I saw it play out time and time again.
