The Evolution of Nomos and Physics in the Greek World
The concept of natural law was at variance with the traditional view that law ultimately was handed down from the gods. The word sophists nowadays has a negative connotation, for someone who argues cleverly but also dishonestly. It's easy to see how an experienced flute player could teach flute playing, orhow a gifted boxer could teach boxing. But it was much harder to understand by what metrics someone was qualified to receive money for offering instruction and getting ahead in politics and in life.
