What's Happening in the Global South?

Austerity protests were precipitated by dramatic, overnight price hikes resulting from the termination of public subsidies on basic goods and services. They are very cross class movements where you have your sort of classical sectors of the urban poor as well as small street vendors. In an enormous number of cases, it's the same places that riot - sometimes its the same people. The next phase of political resistance to this stuff is called the anti globilization movement.
