Shostakovich's Bloody Sunday
The symphony is anywhere from an hour to 70 minutes long, and it is a study in extremes. The music here is a fragment, based off of another revolutionary song, Rage U Tyrant. This movement is a sustained assault, 15 minutes of utter rage. Shostakovich was not above writing propaganda music, though he always did it under threat, or when he was desperate for money.
