Tim Giel's book exonerates the great Victorian explorer Henry Morton Stanley from allegations of racism, brutality and suppressed homosexuality. In doing this, Giel ignores lines from Stanley's journal like this: The blacks given immense amount of trouble. They are too ungrateful for my fancy. And perhaps most racist of all, a line about Afro Arab people from non racist Henry Morton Stanley quote,. For the half cast I have great contempt.
