Coffee in the Americas
Coffee made its way into Europe by way of Malta in 1565. In Italy, the Catholic church carried on its grand tradition of being opposed to absolutely anything new and slash or enjoyable. The first coffee house that opened on the continent of Europe was in 1645 in Venice. And so it's spread through Italy, and we'll come back to Italy, of course, at the end of the episode.
