Not having a clearly defined protagonist. A lot of that depends on who your ideal reader is. If I'm writing primarily women's fiction for women, I would go with the woman. If it is to be a police procedural, I would gone with the cop. And this often takes a little bit of reworking and you have to look at what does this character know? What do they want to know? You got to work it in more organically.
