The Anti-Absinity Campaign of the 19th Century

Anthony Comstock led the anti-birth control crusade of the 19th century. He was a descendant of some of the earliest Puritans in New England. In 1873, he began lobbying Congress to pass anti-absinity laws. The law would outlaw sending materials through the mail that were seen as obscene.
