Strategies for Mindfulness in Youth
We need to help youth start developing that emotional vocabulary and understand what emotions are. Anger is there for a reason; it's part of your stress response. When you feel angry or anxious, it doesn't necessarily mean there is a threat. If I'm feeling anxious, that may mean I feel unsafe and disempowered. So what can I do to trigger feelings to help myself feel safe and empowered? That's how they can start identifying what their needs might be in the moment.
