I don't think that there are causes at all as part of the fundamental nature of reality. I think that causes are higher, higher level, emergent phenomena. That's just wildly inappropriate in the world of modern physics. We just don't talk that way anymore. The universe is expanding very, very fast. So even though you're removing more and more space from the inflationary regime, you're also creating more and more time. And that's why inflation goes on eternally.
