The Neuronal Code

The idea there might be a neuronal code in the activity of neurons wasn't initially presented in scientific articles. It was presented in popular explanations by Edgar Adrian, who went on to become Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. He used these ideas of code and information in the early 1920s, long before these ideas had emerged into computation and mathematics. The whole issue of deciding that the neuron was a separate structure, those were really resolved by technology.
