Rome's Political System
Rome's political system was set up to run a little city state in italy, not this massive, multi ethnic system with territory on three continents. The roman republic had three branches of government: the senate, magistrates and praetors. Every position only lasted for one year - you're the consul for one year; you're the governor for one year. But when your province is modern day turkey or syria, and you don't speak the language and you have to figure it all out, as well as try to accomplish whatever you want to accomplish, that's a pretty inconvenient and inefficient system.
