The Incorrect Plum Pudding Model of the Atom
In the 1860s, 1870s it was known that different atoms had different properties. Thompson suggested this was based upon the number and arrangement of the electrons in a pudding substance of positive charge. Rutherford did experiments firing alpha particles which he used because they were about the size of an atom. He hoped to determine the size and shape and structure of atoms.
