As tim san john mentioned earlier, there's a lot of crazy, violent, morbid stuff in the bible but a lot of them are human beings doing it, not under god's command. You know, god is compassionate and loving and kind and patient. That's the god of the bible, not just this one specific story or things that yo might piece together to portray him an all these ways.
