The Stumbling Stone in the New Testament
The advent of Christ has led to two effects. Gentiles who had not sought out righteousness end up receiving it. Jews who pursued Torah observance believed that that would lead to them receiving God's saving justice, but they didn't even succeed in attaining the Torah itself. This is all the result of stumbling over a stumbling stone, a common theme in the New Testament. The stumbling stone here is probably both Christ and faith that corresponds to the receiving of God's grace in him.
