I mean unprecedented, I think is an adjective which would apply in more than the census you have pointed out with remarkable accuracy. There are examples like when, see, when the circumstances change, sometimes leaders also change. Turkey was supporting the rebels to bring down the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Later on, Turkey reached al-Assad because they realized that the fall of Assad would be a bitter headache for Turkey.
