I Love the Third Person

I love the third person. When I'm kind of feeling tyrannical, I think that if I were to design a creative writing program from scratch, I would forbid the use of the first person until graduation. The third person can be very useful because it allows that doubleness of both seeing through the character's eyes and also seeing the character from the outside. And that's that unique doubleness that you only really find in fiction. You don't quite find it in the same way on the stage or on the screen, I think.
