The biggest challenge to wastewater based epidemiology being uptake in and sustainable into the future is coordination between the plant, public health, and laboratory. Public health officials may not even know if how many wastewater treatment plants are in their neighborhood. Some states have a way of doing things and they don't necessarily want a new tool. All data that is collected from wastewater, it's not protected data because it's not linked to an individual.
