During the winter of 413-412 BC, appeals for aid came to the Spartans from Eubia, Lesbos, Kios, and Arithry. As each petition for assistance with their uprisings, the rival satraps let it be known that they both had the authorization of the Great King. Persia was ready to join in the war against Athens. But as we have alluded to in the past, any potential Spartan-Persian alliance ultimately would necessitate the Spartans' seeding control of these Asiatic Greek cities over to the Persians.
