The Eruption of Pompey
Most of the city is buried, but a lot of the structures that did not collapse are probably standing on top. Over time, the area becomes a quarry site and people start to take away everything that is exposed for later building projects. Eventually, people start to build over this and the city is more or less forgotten. It was actually quite a surprise when Pompey was rediscovered in the early modern period.
