Eugenics and the Jukes Family

In the late 19th century, industrialization and urbanization led several people to move from the country to Trenton. Emma Wilverton died at the age of 89 in 1978. She knew that she had been written about as Deborah Calcak. It's not really clear whether she knew that that depiction had been at the heart of the eugenics movement or what that had ultimately meant.
