The Relationship Between Altruism and Self-Reported Empathy
A philosopher named Sean Nichols had this brilliant paper on the concern mechanism that James had cited quite a bit and that led me to it. The only thing that seems to be required to feel concerned for other people's well-being, which is the state that directly motivates altruism, is just the ability to tell one therein to stress. You start having to peel the page back on what human nature even is, right? Because why should just awareness of a thing compel a behavior? Pretty animal. Yeah. It's not about semantic knowledge. It's about so much deeper understanding of what that person is feeling.
