The Pandemic and the Need to Keep Children in School
Gillian Keegan said that children suffered enough in the pandemic and we need to keep them in school. But I think there are a number of reasons why absences could have increased since the pandemic. Since COVID, there's been an increase in the issues related to mental health with the resilience of parents and children under much greater pressure. We've also seen a shift in the number of people working from home and some of these parents feel their children do much better at home than they did at school. These are the outliers where teachers find themselves torn between policy and the need to support these families.
