Bayesian Belief Update

If you have too much precision associated with your prior beliefs, you're not going to change your mind. The rate of belief updating depends very sensitively upon the neurochemical instantiation or encoding of the precision at different levels in your sense-making machine. You could even argue that this is the state of mind you'd have to be in to explore alternative hypotheses that are possibly ego dystonic given your current commitments. They may be actually more ego synthetic if you've got yourself in a pathological set of prior beliefs.
