Turtles were disappearing on the west coast. Commercial fishing throughout the 60 seventies and eighties had destroyed the population. They spent entire nights working on beaches with mexican volunteers guarding turtle nests. And they took part in this tradition of drinking coffee and eating gamesa cookies.
