The Rise of Music in the Church
Worship by singing has always been around, since before the time of christ. The emphasis on worship by singing with a pipe organ and a choir is a new idea. At this point, the centre of gravity is shifted from the pulpit to the stage itself. And this is still the dominant style. It's still rows facing a stage that is designed for speaking and for music. But it's telling that the original architecture of the church, at least until the fourth century, far beyond that in certain parts of europe, was a table and a home. That says something about what the church at its core is.
