Are You in Inter Galactic Space?
Newton's first law says a body that is put in motion will stay in the same state of motion unless it's acted on by an external force. If you're out in intergalactic space and you throw a ball, well, ad it's in a vacuum and everything, the ball will just keep going in a straight line. That's what usual called inertial motion. It's moving just according to its inertia. It's not acted on by some external force.
