The Battle of the Asapis
Alexander of Macedon told the Athenian Strateagoy that Mardonius was planning to attack at dawn. Passanias then grew afraid of fighting the Persians and suggested that the Athenians and Spartans exchanged positions in the Greek line, since they were familiar with them already. The Spartans though, did not respond to his challenge, and so Mardonius is overjoyed by his phantom victory.
