What Is the Evidence for Patent Copyright?

In the 18 hundreds, there was a growing reaction against patent copyright law by free market economists who were wondering what the hello be doing limiting limiting trade andnd limiting competition. The defenders came up with a term like intellectual property to make it sound like these were natural property rights. But they're not. In the current state of knowledge, economists know almost nothing about the effect on social welfare of the patent system or other systems of intellectual property. There are theoretical s empirical reasons to question whether patent rights advance innovation in a substantial way in most industries.
