Anthropologist christina douglas of pennsylvania state university explains how she and colleags analyzed egg shells to learn more about a surprising relationship between indigenous pupils on new guinea and cassowaries. Authors found evidence that humans may have been raising cassawary chicks. Several articles in this special issue hilight how the exploitation of islands and other tropicalequa systems significantly intensified after the arrival of european colonialism.
