The majority of the world's bears are in trouble because of human-caused habitat loss. If we choose to continue burning fossil fuels and emitting greenhouse gases at the current rate it is predicted that we could lose up to one third or more of the world’s wild polar bears within the next 35 to 40 years. We can absolutely still limit the adverse impacts of climate change not only in the Arctic but also globally, says Dr Bakshaft.
