Tribalism is at the core of tribalism. You're either one with the tribe or you become a rival. And we imitate the behavior of the progenitor of our tribe, of our clan. If Jesus were to turn away from his father to follow Peter, he and Peter both would quickly fall into memetic rivalry. The venture of the kingdom of God would melt away in insignificant quarrels as they are constantly engaged in.
