Tolstoy is an artist of the interior, expanding outwards. Dostoevsky's characters are ideas dressed up in clothing. Pivir and Vologonzky do a tremendous job translating Anna Karenina into English. The next step for anybody who really falls in love with Russian literature is to learn Russian.
