Robert townsend had attained near cult status among independent film makers due to his dedication to making hollywood shuffle. The only reason the dance scene was sarge was composed of black and white photos instead of moving phootag because townsen and the crew ran out of money for their production. Critics considered this a major flaw. Yet that doesn't seem like something anyone would want to experience for due to the nature of the film, music ntages were often used to progress the plot.
