There's this kind of unchanging autonomous independent self that we kind of hold on to. That is the basis in a way in Buddhist psychology for a feeling of suffering when things are lost or there are changes. The word ego and I write about that in the book it's really a slippery slope ego in the sense of ego psychology  in terms of a functioning ability to analyze judge perceive discriminate executive functions of mind none of executive functions ofMind are denied in Buddhism.
