The Importance of Morality in Leviticus 18
Most of Leviticus 18 is not having to do with ceremonial stuff, but with moral stuff. The Canaanites were a depraved, perverted, mixed-grays culture that thought that both their brains and their worship resided between their legs. In Deuteronomy 9 about verses 4 to 6, God tells Israel in that text three times, it's not because of your righteousness that you're going in and take the land. Two times he says, it's because of the wickedness of these nations,. which means that Israel is going to be Yahweh's appointed instrument of judgment on the Canaanites for their depravity.
