I generally won't have more than 10 positions open at any one time. I will sometimes put two or three trades on at once. If ever I have a portfolio drawdown of 15% from a high watermark, I cut everything and go to cash for at least 24 hours. To get back to break even, I've only got to make 17.5% back. That's a very tough psychological position to put yourself on there.
