The First Disability Civil Rights Case Ever
In 1973, Richard Nixon had signed a law that said that any organization that got federal funding couldn't discriminate against disabled people. But when it came to enforcing that law, there needed to be regulations signed and put in place. Judy Human was the first New York teacher ever who was a wheelchair user. She sued the Board of Education in New York, and she won. The protest organized by Judy Heman ended up being the biggest and longest peaceful occupation of a US federal building in US history.
