David Deutsch: I think that human problems are basically lack of knowledge of how to solve them, and therefore they are solved by creativity only. Do effective altruists not think that it's via lack of knowledge? They imagine that they have something in addition to creativity,. namely a method that can effectively choose between different proposals for how to deal with something. That's why they're called effective. And they're called altruism because altruism is in contrast to selfishness or callousness - the name of an attitude towards the other person.
