You can keep the length of credit history available to you by simply lowering the credit amount, right? Almost all cards will have a down ade path that will allow you to keep the card. And depending on why you got the card, you have your ah down grade points,. So let's say you have the chase sapphire reserve, and you don't want to pay a the 600 dollar annual fee this year for the chasesapphire reserve. You pop down to the chase freedom flex - it allows you to keep  chase points active in your chase account. It also allows you to eliminate the annual fee without just straight up cancelling the card.
