Is There a Rethinking of Punishment?
Punishment is not a moral obligation to do evil, especially in response to evil. The law requires that i receive whatever good i need in order to stop harming myself and the people around me. It is itself an expression of God's love for his creation which can only be fulfilled through discipline and pedagogy. At that point it may seem as if god has given up on punishment because he doesn't want us to punish anyone based on our view of the law. But this isn't true at all. If we think about what punishment is, then that's out,. And as faras its it's out for jesus."
