How Did the Early Jawed Vertebrates Bite?

Jaw evolution goes back to the silurian devonian times, around 400 million years ago or thereabouts. Researchers mathematically estimated theoretical jaw shapes in morpho space analysis. They then took these theoretical jaws and tested them for strength and speed. The more strong your bite is, the less speed you typically are biting with. Comparing these theoretical jaws to the real jaws brought them to the conclusion that the earliest jaws seem to likely have been imized for strength andSpeed.
